2016 has been a really busy year. Trying to juggle work, a master’s degree, a blog and family has been really difficult.
There were times I thought about stop blogging. If you are a blogger you know how much hard work is needed to keep a blog going – it requires regular planning, researching, writing, editing, sharing and promoting (most times without seeing any significant results).
I love blogging but sometimes I though, why do I keep on blogging? What’s the goal of the blog? And then it hit me – I’ve always wanted to become a writer, maybe I should finally publish my first book (about cats)!
Since I was a child I dreamed of becoming a writer. When I was a teenager I would write short stories and I even won a magazine literary contest and also had one of my stories published in a local newspaper.
Then I went off to college to study literature and I started feeling that there were so many people who were much better writers than me and I soon became discouraged. I could not write like Gabriel Garcia Marquez (one of my favorite authors), or even some of the “genius” students. I finished college and started working and completely gave up my dream.
But now, many years later, with all the possibilities the Web offers, I thought maybe I should give it a try. A couple of months ago I finally completed my master’s degree in Communication and so I had more free time to dedicate to writing.
I’ve spent the last months working with a reviewer and an illustrator on my first book which won’t be a 300 page romance (like Gabriel Garcia Marquez), but a self-published humor book featuring a cat and his cat lady (more details coming soon).
2017 will be the year I’ll publish my first book and it will be a great year!
What about you? What are your new year’s resolutions?
