I’ve been writing Cat Lady Confidential for less than a year (the first post was published April 2015), and have produced 122 posts. Even though this is still a young blog I find it important to look at the numbers and try to analyze what works and what doesn’t work. So, here’s what I learned from this list of popular posts:
Lessons Learned From 10 Popular Blog Posts
- The numbers and lists thing works. 6 of my top 10 most popular posts have a number in the headline.
- DIY posts are still popular. Even a beginner’s DIY cat house with poor pictures can become popular.
- Search does matter. Most of these top 10 posts have some relevant search term in the headline (and the page title and URL). I use Google Keyword Planner to search for keywords.
- Your gut feeling isn’t always right. Some series of posts which I thought would be popular weren’t popular at all (Cat Lady Fashion Picks, Cat Art and Design Picks, for instance).
So, in 2016 I’ll be using what I learned to craft some more popular posts (at least I hope so)!
